The Developement of Stone Mastic Asphalt

Beginning in the first half of the 1960’s, new types of wearing signs were observed in the road pavement courses and not only in defective courses. These unusual signs of wear and tear which occurred almost exclusively in the wheel tracks, were caused by the ever increasing use of snow tires having steel spikes or studs.
