»asphalt« Heft 2/2005
Streets and paved areas are advertisements for cities and municipalities. Their maintenance and functional use must be guaranteed for the long term despite limited municipal funds. The reference work "Fiber-modified asphalt pavement" from the company J. Rettenmaier & Söhne GmbH & Co. KG offers some possible solutions. Intelligent solutions for road construction - not only for use on category I and II roads - are given special emphasis here. Based on over 20 years of experience, an overview is presented of asphalt construction methods which have been modified using fiber. These include stone mastic asphalt and porous pavements.
Stone mastic asphalt is an attractive solution for wearing courses on roads, paths and other traffic surfaces. Creative, functional and economical solutions are made possible - ideal for the redevelopment or redesigning of urban areas and areas near to towns. Following a description of the advantages of these construction methods and a short review of the history of SMA, the most important technical and technological requirements for SMA and porous pavements are explained.
A detailed description of completed projected follows that ranges from four-lane roads to intersections, bus stops, bypass roads and cross-town links to pedestrian zones. Additionally international projects and special construction designs are also mentioned. Individual projects are clearly explained, the methods and types of pavement described in detail and, above all, the reasons leading to the use of SMA or porous asphalt are listed. Of course, the file also includes product and contact information. As a result, the user of this reference has a handy and informative decision-making tool.
